  1. Shovkovy, Igor A.; Chiral Symmetry Breaking in the weakly coupled QED in a Magnetic Field: The catalysis of chiral symmetry breaking in the massless weakly coupled QED in a magnetic field is studied. It is shown that the effect is due to the dimensional reduction $D\to D-2$ in the dynamics of fermion pairing in a magnetic field. The dynamical mass of fermions (energy gap in the fermion spectrum) is determined. The temperature of the symmetry restoration is estimated analytically., Comment: 6 pages. REVTeX. The talk given at the International Workshop "Mathematical Physics - today, Priority Technologies -- for tomorrow" (May 12-17, 1997, Kiev, Ukraine) and at the International School of Subnuclear Physics "Highlights: 50 Years Later" (Aug 26 - Sep 4, 1997, Erice-Sicily). The talk is based on a series of papers done in collaboration with V.P.Gusynin and V.A.Miransky [Text] [View with Perseus links] (0.62)

  2. Jolicoeur, Th.; Fullerene anions and pairing in finite systems: The pi electrons of isolated fullerene anions C60^{n-} (n betwen 1 and 6) are a quite unique finite system of electrons with an attractive interaction due to exchange of intramolecular phonons. This interaction may overwhelm Hund's rule and lead to an ordering of levels that can be interpreted as on-ball pairing, in a manner similar to the pairing in atomic nuclei. The weak-coupling treatment of the Jahn-Teller effect is analogous to the seniority model used in nuclear physics for pairing in a single j-shell. The odd-even effects may be sought in solutions of fulleride ions: recent experimental results are discussed., Comment: Lectures presented at the International School on Pair Correlation in Many-Fermion Systems'', Erice (Sicily), June 4 - 11, 1997, Plain TeX file, 10 pages [Text] [View with Perseus links] (0.51)

  3. Ewerz, C.; Towards an Effective Theory of Small-x QCD: In this talk I describe recent progress in investigating the high energy limit of perturbative QCD. I review some of the steps that have been done in the direction of constructing an effective field theory for this limit. I describe some of its building blocks and explain why we expect the effective theory to be a 2+1-dimensional conformal field theory., Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures included, Latex using epsfig.sty and sprocl.sty; Talk presented at the International School of Subnuclear Physics, 34th Course: Effective Theories and Fundamental Interactions, Erice, Sicily, July 1996; to appear in the proceedings [Text] [View with Perseus links] (0.42)
