Girdle - Flesh: Flesh coloured girdle (waist to below hip) with embroidered flowers in same colour. Girdle has a thick elasticised band at the waist, two separate elastic panels on either side of the front (opening) and a smaller one at the back. Garment is fastened (at front) by means of row of loop-shaped fasteners and then, over that with laces, as evidenced by the hooks and holes. Girdle is heavily boned with reinforcement at intervals of approx. 6cms across entire width. There are suspenders for attaching stockings. Original tag still attached reads : "Venus/Maiden Shape/Foundations/For Comfort". On the back are washing instructions. Pencilled on inside of garment is the number "33" - presumably this indicates the size.Collected from Steinberg's Drapery, 140-142 Elgin Street, Carlton, in January 1989. [Text] (9.10)
