  1. (in English) Straight edge fragment from rim. Form 56 but with groove at lip. Fine orange-red clay with dull slip, mould-made relief decoration in good condition with details rendered by incised lines. Figure left chipped on leg. / Max. Dim. 6cm / Red ware / Decorated: Figure L. plays an instrument which is slightly different to the double pipes and is possibly to be identified with the Phrygian aulos (see Grove,s Dictionary of Music and Musicians, Vol.I, p701). At top of fr. R.an arm holds a musical instrument, possibly a hand rattle, and towards the base and beneath the arm R. there is a portion of the swirling skirt of the same figure, probably a dancer. Underwater vegetation rises from the ground level between the two figures. Two motifs of a rosette in a circle are used as a filter between the two figures. The figure is possibly part of the weding procession at the wedding of Thetis and Peleus (the parents of Achilles) [Text] (1.15)
