Decoration: Under the handles large palmette designs occur. Above the scene on side A is a bordered lotus-palmette band. Over side B's scene appears a bordered, diagonal rightward-pointing band of palmettes. Under the scenes an interrupted meander of keys and cross squares continues around the whole vessel. In the middle of the scene on side A, a bearded Dionysos hurries to the right, while looking around to the left. He is wearing a long chiton, ependytes, a belted animal skin over his left shoulder, a mantle over his left arm, an ivy wreath and a headband. In his right hand Dionysos carries a kantharos, in his left a thyrsos. Following him on the left is Hephaistos in a belted chiton, a mantle over his left shoulder, an ivy wreath and a headband. He is holding his upraised hammer in his left hand, against his left shoulder. In his right he carries his tongs with a glowing ember gripped in them, its white color mostly worn away. Hephaistos's right arm is slung around the shoulders of a naked, bearded, wreathed silen. In front of Dionysos on the right are hurrying a maenad in belted peplos and wreath and a wreathed, bearded silen. The maenad is holding a cymbal in her left hand and hitting it with her right, while the silen has a spotted pelt over his left shoulder and carries a burning torch in his left hand. The figures are outlined in light relief. On side B, a bearded man stands in the center, leaning on a staff in his right hand and wearing a long mantle and a white headband. On either side of him stands a woman in chiton and mantle. The woman on the left is wreathed, while the woman on the right wears a cap on her head. The figures are outlined, but no relief is used. Inscriptions: Between Hephaistos and Dionysos on side A, the word hEPHASTOS (Hephaistos) is written. Above the maenad is the word KALOS (beautiful). Shape Description: The vessel has strap handles. Between the body and the foot is a disc-shaped attachment. The edge of the foot has a flattened profile. Sources Used: CVA, Deutschland
