[2] theous gar dê ou tous autous hapantes homoiôs* Aiguptioi sebontai, plên Isios te kai Osirios, ton dê Dionuson einai legousi: toutous de homoiôs hapantes sebontai. hosoi de tou Mendêtos ektêntai hiron ê nomou tou Mendêsiou eisi, houtoi de aigôn apechomenoi ois thuousi. [3] Thêbaioi men nun kai hosoi dia toutous oiôn apechontai, dia tade legousi ton nomon tonde sphisi tethênai. Hêraklea* thelêsai pantôs idesthai ton Dia, kai ton ouk ethelein ophthênai hup' autou: telos de, epeite lipareein ton Hêraklea, tade ton Dia mêchanêsasthai: [4] krion ekdeiranta* proschesthai te tên kephalên apotamonta tou kriou kai endunta to nakos houtô hoi heôuton epidexai. apo toutou krioprosôpon tou Dios tôgalma poieusi Aiguptioi, apo de Aiguptiôn Ammônioi, eontes Aiguptiôn te kai Aithiopôn apoikoi kai phônên metaxu amphoterôn nomizontes. [5] dokeein de moi, kai to ounoma Ammônioi apo toude sphisi tên epônumiên epoiêsanto*: Amoun gar Aiguptioi kaleousi ton Dia. tous de krious ou thuousi Thêbaioi, all' eisi sphi hiroi dia touto.
