Perseus Research Preprints: Collection Overview

Although most readers know the Perseus Project as a digital library, a repository for texts, images, and maps, we are also a research organization.

Eaton Hall, home of the Perseus Project

The Research Preprints Collection includes the scholarly articles we write to explain our work. We deliver papers at conferences for classical scholars, scholars of modern languages and literature, librarians, and computer scientists. Our articles are also published in a wide variety of journals, some on line and some in print.

The Perseus Research Preprints Collection is unlike the other collections in Perseus because some of the materials referenced here are outside the digital library: they belong to the web sites of the journals and conferences where the papers were first published. Some of these papers, both those on the Perseus site and those at external sites, are in Adobe's PDF format; others are in plain HTML. These articles, therefore, do not participate in the web of hyperlinks among Perseus documents, and the external articles do not appear in the Perseus Table of Contents. Other articles were written in (or converted to) SGML, which allows them to use the resources of the rest of the digital library.

Our research is supported by the National Science Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities, under a grant from the Digital Libraries Initiative, Phase 2. Research support has also come from the Foundation to Improve Postsecondary Education, the Annenberg/CPB Project, the Getty Grant program, the Modern Language Association, the Berger Family Technology Transfer Endowment, and Tufts University.
