    [5] Perieres took possession of Messene and married Gorgophone, daughter of Perseus, by whom he had sons, to wit, Aphareus and Leucippus,1 and Tyndareus, [p. 81] and also Icarius. But many say that Perieres was not the son of Aeolus but of Cynortas, son of Amyclas;2 so we shall narrate the history of the descendants of Perieres in dealing with the family of Atlas.
